Pink Lemonade vs Regular Blueberries

Pink Lemonade blueberry bush with berries ripening to pink

Pink Lemonade is a real USDA-bred highbush variety whose fruit ripens pink instead of blue — pale green, then blushing, then deep pink when fully ripe. Under the color, the growing facts are ordinary: zones 4–8, about 300–500 chill hours, 4–5 ft, mid-to-late harvest.

Flavor: sweet, mild and low-acid — less of the tangy 'blueberry bite,' which is exactly why kids and blueberry-skeptics tend to love it. Yield: moderate — expect less volume than Bluecrop or Duke; this is a charm bush, not a workhorse. Skill issue: ripeness is judged by pinkness and softness, not blue color, so first-year growers sometimes pick it pale and tart.

Verdict: plant it as the second or third bush — for kids, gifts and the neighbor conversations — alongside a heavy producer. As an only bush, choose Duke or Bluecrop.
